Roussottes Walk

Bicentennial Walks: The Border of 1819

History

International discussions to provide the new canton with a militarily defensible territory took place in Vienna and Paris between 1814 and 1815. The historic territory of the Principality and Canton of Neuchâtel was supplemented for this purpose with the French commune of Cerneux-Péquignot. The subsequent demarcation, carried out between 1817 and 1819, finalized the international boundary between Neuchâtel and the Kingdom of France. This walk invites you to explore the boundary stones, historical witnesses to the bicentennial of the canton, set in a magnificent natural setting.
